Hells Lane, Dorset.

Possibly the best green lane one could ever explore. It runs deep between high soft-sandstone cliffs, so thickly over-hung with trees you feel you are under water rather than in air, walking through a tunnel of beach and hazel green light. Then you begin to spy the plethora of carvings in the cliffs on either side of the path, some tiny, some large, some artistic some less so, but all creative in some shape or fashion. It has to be one of the vernacular wonders of Britain.

Difficult to photograph because the light is so low in this deep sunken green road in full summer and you need at least two trips because you wont spot all of the carvings in just one. Below is a tiny selection.
